Ventura City Corps welcomes the beginning of spring with a Poker Walk fund-raiser on March 21 in support of its youth community service programs. Participants begin at the City Corps headquarters at 77 N. California St. in Ventura and walk along Main St. to a designated location near the intersection of Main and Freeway 101 and return. They will collect one card at each of five participating businesses along the route. The winning hand at the end of the event will receive a $150 cash prize. The mission of City Corps is to inspire and develop youth to become capable, productive and engaged civic leaders, and to elevate the status of youth in their communities. Through experiential service learning projects and youth mentoring, City Corps helps youth to develop leadership, life and vocational skills, positive social relationships and standards of excellence. Members ranging in age from 12 to 24 learn civic responsibility to become meaningful, capable and essential resources to their communities.
