Build muscles and friends while helping seniors: Oxnard
Help yourself as you help others get stronger; improve balance and fight osteoporosis while building a network of new friends. Volunteer instructors will be part of a team that leads two one-hour exercise classes per week. All classes are free to the public and kept small to ease conversations and connections. Light hand and ankle weights are provided in the class. Weekly educational discussions, using materials provided by the program, cover topics pertinent to osteoporosis prevention, aging and health.
Volunteers must attend two of 30 classes before participating in a free, one-day training. After training, volunteers will be asked to again observe/participate in a few classes before teaching their own. Volunteer instructors are asked to commit to teaching a class for at least six months following the training. Many instructors have been with the agency two or more years. Volunteers must be at least 55 years of age.
Free trainings for new instructors are held every three months. Call to reserve a spot. For more information, contact Marisue Eastlake, director of RSVP Of Oxnard, 385-8020 or RSVP@ci.oxnard.ca.us
