Cut the crap!
Be realistic and just stop eating the bad stuff
By Thea Shoemaker 02/18/2010
Cut the crap! I mean really. I’m so sick of hearing “I’m not eating carbs,” or, “I started Lindora” or, “I’m on Jenny Craig!”… Are you kidding me? What you’re really doing is kidding yourself.
Honestly!
People, you’re eating crap and you’re talking a lot of crap about what you’re eating. You need to come to terms with it. I know this is a tough blow, and I apologize for coming across so strong, but I cannot take another minute of it.
Do you want to live in a healthy, fit body? Then let me tell you something — there is no freakin’ diet in the world that’s going to work unless you can eat that way for the rest of your life. Most diets are so restrictive that you will never be able to sustain them for a long period of time. Is it realistic for you not to eat bread, ever? Or how about this one: bacon and eggs for breakfast every morning? Back in the day, everyone ate a ton of bacon and eggs, and ya know what they got? High cholesterol and corroded arteries.
If you go the other route and do the fasting thing, eating only one meal a day, you’ll end up with malnutrition, weak bones, and a starving, flabby body. Worse yet, when you are through with the fasting frenzy, you’ll eat everything under the sun (and the moon) and find yourself more overweight than ever. That’s no way to live.
OK, enough harsh words. I’m going to share with you some tips you can do right now that will keep you healthy for the rest of your life. Trust me.
Do your best to not eat junk food. Try to stay away from processed foods, such as potato chips and dip, fast food, I don’t care. Fast food is crap! Doughnuts, candies, cakes, cookies … all crap. Do your best not to eat it. Every once in a while is OK, but as a rule, eliminate junk from your regular diet.
Don’t overeat. Whenever you eat, have smaller portions. Some people find it helpful to cut regular meals in half.
Others focus on smaller meals, more often. Whatever method works for you is fine … The bottom line is: eat less.
Avoid sodas and other soft drinks. They are loaded with sugar and have absolutely no nutritional value at. Water is best. There is a time and place for Gatorade-type drinks, but this type of drink should be used to replace your electrolytes after long cardio workouts or when you are dehydrated.
So now here’s the real kicker. Be realistic. If it’s the holiday season, and you’re at a party or celebrating any special occasion, you know darn well you’re going to eat stuff that’s not healthy for you. So do it. Eat! Just don’t overindulge.
Avoiding food will only make things worse. The best way to handle the temptation is to have a small bite or plate of food, and enjoy it. You’ll feel satisfied and not deprived.
Eating healthy isn’t rocket science. But you have to remember that you’re worth it!
