DEVELOPING: Brush fire in Ventura foothills

By Michel Miller 08/27/2012

A 15-plus acre fire, dubbed the Skyline Incident by Ventura County Fire Department officials, began burning at approximatley 4:30 p.m. Monday in the hills behind Arroyo Verde Park. At least 150 firefighters were called to the scene along with fixed wing airplaines.

By 7 p.m. the fire department had a 70 percent containment line, but this does not mean the fire is under control. Officials said they were "making good progress."

Firefighters are using Arroyo Verde Park as a staging area and drivers are being asked to keep Foothill Road clear between Day and Victoria.

As of 7 p.m. airplanes had made successful water drops and no structures have been threatened.

This is a developing story and conditions can change based on wind and other factors.

Update 8:40 p.m. "The fire is now at 58 acres and is 70 percent contained. Firefighters will continue working through the night. Air operations have concluded until daylight. Full containment of the fire is expected sometime tomorrow afternoon. No structures were damaged and there have been no injuries. This will be the last update until the morning. More hot weather is expected for tomorrow. Be careful out there!"
