Local daily paper moves jobs out of state

After a string of layoffs over the last year and a slow shrinking of its print version, 15 more positions are cut at the Ventura County Star this week

By Michael Sullivan 02/11/2010

The rumblings of more layoffs at the Ventura County Star were confirmed Tuesday, Feb. 10 when L.A. Observed editor Kevin Roderick blogged about the daily paper's decision to move its sports and news copy desk to Corpis Christi, Texas. The layoffs were also confirmed by an inside source the following day. While the staff would be allowed to apply for the new positions in the Lone Star State, no further information has been released as to what the 15 people who are affected would do.

So with this move, you are no longer a 'local' paper. Labor is cheaper in Texass, but why don't you go all the way and outsource the whole outfit to India. The top brass can make a killing that way, a whole years worth of labor for a month's worth of pay. Don't plan on me spending another dime on your rag.

The Star Free Press does not qualify as fish wrapping paper. It was OK at one time, but over the last 5 years has become almost nothing. I get the LA Times which actually has stories and world news... not stories borrowed from others and 2 days late... and I don't have to call for a missing paper all of the TIMES.
