Recording/Releasing

Oxnard electronic wizard Esgar has released his debut vinyl EP on London’s IZWID records. He is gearing up for a two-week European tour in November. “I want my music to become visual and an experience for the audience,” he says. “To take them to the world where this music would exist as the soundtrack.” It’s been a long time coming, but the hip-hop/rock hybrid Shoddy Cons has finally released a full-length recording — not before calling it quits, however. Guitarist R.J. LeStrange and bassist Jeremy Henry split off to start a new project, according to drummer Robert Enriquez. Future plans for the rest of the band are still up in the air. Select tracks may be previewed at soundcloud.com/shoddy-cons. To order a CD, find them on Facebook. Night Demon released its debut EP last month and the glowing reviews are piling up. To order the EP or purchase some cheeky merch, visit www.nightdemon.net. East County alt rock band Galvanized Souls has made its debut EP available on iTunes and Amazon. This band is poised to make a big splash — and soon. No//Sé is taking preorders for the vinyl 7-inch “Beach Bathroom Bingo” b/w “All the Little Things You Love to Hate.” To get yours, visit www.1859records.storyenvy.com. Anchor & Bear, featuring the upbeat, glassy vocals of Bearkat, has released the single “Bicycle Races.” Find it on iTunes and anchorandbear.bandcamp.com. Last week, the ever-popular Creature Feature released a new single, “Netherworld” on iTunes. Get it.

Winning

Congratulations to VCReporter’s Best Of readers’ poll winners Dirty Rice for best artist (2nd place) and best recording (1st place) as well as D. on Darox and the Melody Joy Bakers, who came in second place for best recording.  Hardworking hip-hop artist Riley Real won a Cappie award from CAPS Television last week for episode 5 of his public access TV program The Riley Real Network.

Reorganizing

Mute on the Floor promoter and Triturabis vocalist Joel Perkins is the new frontman for The Loads. Guitarist Jason Goldenbee joined Sharks and Cobras after original guitarist Eric Landis decided to backburner music and focus on being a dad.

Recording

In the midst of recording its second full-length, Rubberneck Lions has decided to take a handful of songs that don’t quite fit in, and release them on a vinyl EP early next year. Drummer Jaison Henderson says the songs are “more indie and almost Beatles-ish.” One of them will be featured in the film Dawn Patrol, which was filmed in Ventura and is set to premiere some time in 2014. Sharks and Cobras spent summer vacation at Satellite Studios with Armand Anthony, resulting in six new songs. The official release will be in the near future, but for now you can sample tracks at reverbnation.com/SharksandCobras.

Partnering

Online radio station Kosher Metal and radio program 805 Underground have teamed up to create The 805 Underground Concert Series. Live events will take place on a monthly basis at Outlaws Grill and Saloon in Camarillo. The event kickoff will be on Saturday, Sept. 28, featuring In the Night, Halfway to Hell, Mutalisk and PDP. Metal bands interested in performing at future events should email contact@koshermetal.com with 805 Underground in the subject line. Emails must include band name, official site URL, links to hear music and location. Any emails with file attachments will be deleted and ignored. Qualifying bands will be notified via email, so email submissions should be sent from an account that is checked regularly.
