We don't want Palin either
10/02/2008
Just read with interest the letter to the editor in 9/25/2008, “Dems’ bloodied waters.” I am from Alaska and have met and spoken with Sarah Palin.
The new life she has breathed into the party is nothing more than what people wish was there, not what is in fact there. If what is wanted is someone who supports aerial wolf hunting, limiting your reading choices (she tried to get books banned in the town library in which she was mayor), spending money you don’t have (as mayor she left the city with a large deficit), opening ANWAR to the oil industry (scientific fact vs. wishful thinking) and someone who is just as corrupt as any other very opportunistic politician, go ahead and vote for her. We will be the winners in Alaska, because she will leave room for someone else.

Obama’s good eye contact
Interesting how McCain accused Obama of lacking caution in his remarks about Pakistan (which he mischaracterized, and I was pleased to see Obama correct him), yet he seemed to think that joking about bombing Iran was OK because his “record” was good.
Do as I say, not as I do.
Personally, I want a President who is capable of looking his opponent in the eye, which John McCain did not do once during the debate.

Train trestle dilemma
Re: September 25, 2008, article by Joan Trossman Bien
I have spoken at length about the issues contained within this article.
I have not submitted anything in writing except for this commentary to VC Reporter.
First, I confirmed that the “trestle” is subject to the ordinance of the City of Ventura.
Yet this ordinance is NOT enforced against Union Pacific. But this same ordinance is being enforced otherwise. Is Union Pacific too big for our city fathers? I think so.
Second, I can guarantee a solution to this “trestle” with a very low cost to the taxpayers of the City of Ventura. My offer was spurned by our city fathers. Why?
Third, I called the Union Pacific Police, and I was told that the City of Ventura has NEVER contacted Union Pacific about this trestle.
Furthermore, all the spinning done in the article by VC Reporter from the people quoted is simply grandstanding.
Give me the ball on the trestle, and the job will be done, completed.

Forrest’s mistake
Re: Dems’ Bloodied Waters
It appears, at least as of 9-11, unlike a growing number of thinking Republicans, that Forrest Mize has yet to regret McCain’s VP pick of Sarah Palin. Perhaps Forrest should consider that California is behind Obama 94 percent, to 6 percent for
McCain. Perhaps he should move to Texas ... he can be much happier among his element, and there he might even be able to find a McCain yard sign on Nov. 4th.

As a former resident of Alaska, I take exception to the comments by Lynne Cameron above. To describe Mrs. Palin as " someone who is just as corrupt as any other very opportunistic politician " requires a certain minimal degree of substantiation. There is no discernible data to back that up. To state that she "tried to get books banned ( at the library )" is a misstatement and not true as well as the comment that she " spent money you don't have". Ms. Cameron is a nurse practitioner in Skagway who seems quite partisan and a little short on factual information.
That's the democrat party way of doing business. Throw a bunch of mud and see if any of it sticks. If it doesn't, just repeat it until it becomes commonly accepted.
Palin is a good choice. I had the pleasure of meeting her 2 weeks ago and she was adamant that in spite of McCain being an old Navy hand the Navy needed a complete overhaul to get rid of the dead wood and constipated thinking. She also believes that the air force is a much better command structure to assign pilots based on naval vessels to.
I agree with fmize, this woman is the Maverick and breath of fresh air we need!!
Lynne Cameron, Skagway, Alaska stated above:
"...if what is wanted is someone who supports aerial wolf hunting...go ahead and vote for her..."
per Factcheck.com: wolves are not an endangered species in Alaska - there are 7000-11000. The state refers to the matter as "predator control" - a wolf eats 12-13 moose a year and 30-40 caribou. Subsistence hunters are a major priority in wildlife management in Alaska. Aerial hunting requires special permits - is legal per a 2003 law.
Chris Jensen, you are a liar as well as a pinko commie leftist. The People's Demokratik Republik of Kalifornia might vote democrat but not by 94 to 6 percent. Even if it did, it would just reflect that 94 percent of the state are idiots, which I do not doubt for a minute.
