Sea Wolf In the wide pantheon of bands with some variation of “wolf” in their name, L.A.’s Sea Wolf is making a push to the front of the pack. Embodied by singer-songwriter Alex Church, the project began evolving gradually in 2003, as Church took the songs out of his room and onto the stage with a group cobbled together from members of other bands in and around the vibrant Silverlake indie rock scene. But it wasn’t until 2007 that a record bearing the Sea Wolf name hit shelves. With Church’s cryptic songwriting and unabashed knack for catchy melodies, Leaves in the River quickly caught on with sophisticated pop audiences, especially its lead single, the enigmatic-yet-irresistible “You’re A Wolf.” Church and his backing band perform at the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History on Jan. 4.
