A community group hoping to put an end to large-scale stores in Ventura is set to present the city with a proposed ballot measure, the group said Jan. 30.

Citizens to Preserve Ventura hopes to stop big box development, like the Super Wal-Mart proposed to be built on Victoria Avenue.

After the city attorney reviews the ballot measure, the group will have 120 days collect signatures from 15 percent of Ventura’s registered voters in order to place the initiative on the November ballot. If the group only collects signatures from 10 percent of registered voters, the measure will likely appear on a 2009 ballot.
