RAY DAVIES Long before Oasis made brother squabbling the norm in British pop music there was the legendary Kinks. They probably deserve more respect considering they brought distorted guitars to the masses with, “You Really Got Me,” and their concept records The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society and Lola Versus Powerman and the Money-Go-Round are classics. Their chief songwriter, Ray Davies, will be dipping into the Kinks catalog as well as playing selections from his recent stellar solo material. With talk of the brothers finally doing a reunion, you shouldn’t miss this chance to see a bona fide legend go acoustic. Thursday, March 25 at The Canyon, 28912 Roadside Drive, Agoura Hills. (818) 879-5016.

You’re not having flashbacks, but it will be déjà vu all over again when two of Ventura’s most popular bands ever take to the stage at the Ventura Theater for an evening of geezer rockin’ and  rollin’.  Word is that certain of Raging Arb’s offspring will join their dads on a few numbers and of course Lion I’s will bring their characteristic “original style” to the party. Both bands are getting set to release CDs: Raging Arb’s, recorded live at Nicholby’s will be for sale at the show.  Saturday, March 20 at the Ventura Theater, 26 S. Chestnut St., Ventura. 653-0721.

For a musician that spends so much of his life on the road, it seems only fitting that when Dave Gleason returns to Ventura this weekend he will be doing so in style. Backing Gleason as he takes to the stage at Yolie’s for this all-too-rare hometown rollick will be his Northern California touring partners The Golden Cadillacs. Since they graced audiences at several of Gleason’s Sacramento shows, Dave Gleason and The Golden Cadillacs have been branding their unique blend of infectious honky-tonk, soul-searching country, and good old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll within bar-rooms all points north for several years. But this weekend they are revving up for a run of Southern Californian dates. And, rest assured, they will cruise into town with a sound as elegant and dynamic as their marquee so aptly suggests. Friday, March 12, 9 p.m. at Yolie’s, 138 W. Main St., Ventura. 652-0338 or  www.myspace.com/davegleasonmusic.

Shenanigans will perform on Saturday, March 13, 11 a.m. at Bombay Bar & Grill and at The Beachcomber Tavern in Oxnard at 9 p.m.
