AN EVENING OF NOTE Saturday, March 31. Ventura Music Festival will hold a live auction fundraiser of original art on folding screens based on music themes and created by local artists. (Pictured is the screen painted by Virginia Beale.) The funds raised from the event will support Ventura Music Festival’s educational outreach programs in the local schools and youth organizations as well as the production of professional concerts for the public. The evening will be themed around the Roaring Twenties and will include a gourmet dinner, live entertainment and other fun stuff. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served at 5:30 p.m. followed by the dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $150 per person.  To purchase tickets and for information about proxy or absentee bidding, contact Ventura Music Festival at 648-3146 or www.venturamusicfestival.org.

AN EVENING WITH LUTHER GERLACH Tuesday, March 27, 6 p.m.
Focus on the Masters presents an evening with the photographer who uses archaic equipment to create his eerie images. Gerlach spent a year building his own “golden ratio” 22-inch-by-30-inch camera that is the largest wet-plate camera being used today. His work is found in many private and public collections, including that of President and Mrs. Barack Obama. He has lectured and given demonstrations at The Getty, Santa Barbara Natural History Museum, Museum of Ventura County and other institutions. His photographs have appeared in numerous prestigious publications. General admission $10, seniors $5.
