AN AFTERNOON OF HOPE Saturday, April 28, 3-10 p.m. A very special fundraiser for a unique person: raw vegan ice cream maker, reggae DJ, ex-pro skateboarder and VCReporter art director Enrique Candioti, aka DJ Ambassador Jr. Candioti and his family are facing some mind-numbing medical bills as a result of his ongoing treatment for cancer of the kidney and brain. On his behalf, an impressive lineup of musicians and businesses are getting together to offer hope. Live music by Zoila, Rising Son, SkaDaddyz, Brion Shearer, Dan Grimm and special guest Daniel “Bambaata” Marley. The event will feature great food, beer and wine, arts and crafts, activities for kids and an exceptional silent auction. Admission is $10, $20 per family. Sunrise Birthing Center, 12 N. SIMI VALLEY BLUES FESTIVAL Saturday, April 28. Now in its seventh year, the highly anticipated annual event features some of the most revered performers in the blues genre. A portion of proceeds from the event go to benefit the American Diabetes Association and other charitable organizations. The lineup includes Tommy Castro, Curtis Salgado, Walter Trout, The Delgado Brothers and Michael John and the Bottom Line. HEALTHY KIDS DAY Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Healthy Kids Day is the Y’s initiative to improve the health and well-being of families across the country. The festivities will kick off with a grand reopening of the Y’s brand new state-of-the-art cardio room showcasing one of the Y’s most popular programs for youth, the Kids Cardio Club. Other activities include healthy cooking demonstrations by Executive Chef Karl Holst from  Spanish Hills Country Club, live music performances by Sarah Ashleigh, Danielle Taylor and Lainey Taylor, a 30-foot obstacle course and jump house, Games on Wheelz, an interactive photo booth, a juggler and unicyclist, an onsite ambulance and educational demonstrations for youth on how to call 911, Green Art activities, face painting, basketball, educational booths showcasing healthy living in Ventura and much more. PAINT VENTURA April 26-29. One of Ventura’s newest and best attended visual art events returns for a weekend of art activities including workshops and classes.
