Ever since I was a young boy, I can remember my more liberal (and older) family members ramble on about how much more tolerant and compassionate they are in comparison to their conservative counterparts. Their argument is that because they support gay marriage and want welfare programs for the poor, they are the political party that cares more. I see this as a foolish and arrogant position, considering that conservatives have homosexual friends and family members whom they love, and conservatives help with numerous private sector causes like Children’s Hunger Fund and World Impact.

But let’s take a look at recent news items and see if liberals’ words match their actions. Follow the evidence, I always say.

Recently, the most famous Pitt in America hasn’t been Brad, but instead his elderly mother, Jane Pitt. While Brad has been labeled a liberal and claimed he wouldn’t marry until gay marriage became legal, his mother is a staunch Christian conservative. Here is an excerpt from the letter she recently wrote to a local Missouri paper:

“Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for [Mitt] Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama — a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage.”

Obviously the woman holds traditional, evangelical political beliefs and believes that this election is extremely important, enough to use some limited fame to write the local paper. She appears to hold no radical or surprising conservative positions, yet the feedback from the Tolerance Party has been anything but tolerant. Here are the tweets from liberal twits:

“Brad Pitt’s mom, die,” said one Twitter post, according to Web site Twitchy.

“[bleep] you, brad pitt’s mom. the gay community made your kid a star, you whacko,” wrote a grammatically challenged liberal.

And the classiest of all: “Brad Pitt’s mom wrote an anti-gay pro-Romney editorial. Kill the Bitch.”

Since liberalism, as Rush Limbaugh always reminds us, has a lot to do with problems with authority and parents, these actions fit in with the M.O. for liberals. So far the only person to come to the woman’s defense is, ironically, Angelina Jolie’s dad, conservative actor Jon Voight. Where are the ACLU and Gloria Allred? Shouldn’t one be calling for free speech and the other attacking those who attack women? Silence is deafening.

Then there is the “boo” heard around the world. On Wednesday, July 11, Mitt Romney spoke before the NAACP and presented his argument to the least supportive minority group in America. The courage it took for Romney to appear before a group of people who will never vote for him is admirable. Things were going well. Romney was taking about jobs and reducing the role of government to save the next generation, and then with this statement he lost the crowd:

“I’m going to eliminate every nonessential, expensive program I can find,” Romney said. “That includes Obamacare.”

Then the “boos” came. All over the 24/7 news cycle and talk radio this video appeared. Here is a man who could be the next president of the United States, a respected governor and decent man, who because he wants to take away a tax was booed. Could you image what would happen if a group of NRA members were to “boo” President Obama if he called for stricter gun laws while standing before them? The cries of racism would never end. It’s so nice of the NAACP to “tolerate” Romney’s opinions.

Probably the most troublesome is the cruel felony accusation by Obama official Stephanie Cutter, who claims Romney committed a felony after the Boston Globe wrote about his time at Bain Capital. She suggests he got his dates wrong and either listed himself in SEC filings as CEO after leaving the firm, which would be a felony, or misled the American people. Obama once claimed he visited 57 states. Maybe she should call the feds about his comments. Tolerance and compassion strike again!

The old adage reads, if you repeat a lie enough times, you might start to believe it. Case in point: The past 50 years of liberals and their view of themselves.
