THE NUTCRACKER Saturday, Nov. 17 at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. Guests are invited to take a magical journey into the world of life-sized mice, dancing sweets and of course, a magical prince. The Ventura County Ballet Company’s adaptation of the theatrical event will bring the holiday tradition to life by thrilling audiences with its captivating storytelling, larger-than-life imagery, visual effects and opulent costumes. The enchanting choreography with Tchaikovsky’s famed score accompanied by the Ventura College Symphony Orchestra will add to the ambiance making a memorable holiday event for families. HOUSECAR AT MURPHY AUTO MUSEUM In tandem with the airing of Ken Burns’ PBS documentary Dust Bowl on Nov. 18 and 19, the Murphy Auto Museum is showcasing a 1924 Housecar that recalls the families that traveled and lived in cars in California looking for work during that period. 2230 Statham Blvd., Oxnard. LA SANTA CECILIA Saturday, Nov. 17, 8 p.m. The Blues, Bop and Books series at the Thousand Oaks Library presents the phenomenal, Grammy-nominated, L.A.-based Latin hybrid ensemble La Santa Cecilia. Drawing inspiration from cumbia, bossa nova, rumba, bolero, tango, jazz, rock and klezmer, the group is known for leaving its audience absolutely mesmerized. “What emerges is a dizzying, glorious spin that sonically captures Southern California life.” — OC Weekly.
