On Saturday, Jan 12, from 11 a.m to sundown, Ventura’s music, art and kustom kulture communities are gathering  to raise money to help Handsome Devil owner and ChopperFest organizer Tory DuVarney recover from a serious surfing accident that left his vision compromised. The benefit will feature live music by Zippy Josh, Strand Band, Ska Daddyz, Raging Arb and the Redheads, Ferrell Project, Anthurium and Mayors of Garret. Vintage cars and bikes, food by El Rey Cantina, raffles (surfboards, skateboards, services, original artwork, etc.) and other fun stuff will be aplenty. $20 entry comes with food and a raffle ticket. Hi-Hat Entertainment, the people who bring outstanding music to Yolie’s every Friday, will debut the Gypsy Blues Room  at Peirano’s on Thursday, Jan. 10, 8-10:30 p.m. Musical entertainment includes Pete Anderson, Dona Oxford, Mark Tortorici, Jim Calire and special guests.

Always a great show, Bone Thugs N Harmony and DJ Quik return to the Ventura Theater on Saturday, Jan. 12.

NON-HUMANS COMIC BOOK SIGNING Saturday, Jan. 12, 2 p.m. Meet the creative team from the hit Sci-Fi book Non-Humans. Legendary artist and Image Comics co-founder Whilce Portacio (pictured), who is best known for his work on Uncanny X-Men, Incredible Hulk, Punisher, Spawn and other hits. Also writer Glen Brunswick, author of Killing Girl, The Gray Area, Jersey Gods will be present. Hypno Comics & Games, 1803 E. Main St. Ventura.

45 SECONDS FROM BROADWAY Jan. 11 through Feb. 2. Conejo Players, Ventura County’s oldest theater company, presents the Neil Simon comedy about theatergoers and other customers of a coffee shop on Broadway. The eclectic/eccentric cast of characters includes a comedian similar to Jackie Mason, a snooty society woman and her almost-mute husband, a Broadway ingenue and a playwright. STEVE BINDER Saturday, Jan. 12, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. In honor of the King’s birthday week, Crazy Doctor Café in Ventura will present a Q & A with Steve Binder, director/producer of the legendary 1968 Elvis “comeback special” on NBC. He will also be signing his book ’68 at 40. Through Jan 12, the restaurant is giving away peanut butter and banana sandwiches. 2991 Loma Vista, Ventura, 643-0800.
