THE BIRTHDAY OF THE INFANTA Through June 23. Adapted from a story by Oscar Wilde, SENGA Youth Theatre presents this play that takes place In the Spanish court of the mid-17th century. It is the birthday of the princess. Most of all, she wants the attention of a loving father, but overwhelming grief for his dead wife has kept him in mourning for years. As a special entertainment for her 12th birthday, the chamberlain has brought to the palace a “fantastic,” an ugly, dwarfed boy, whom he found innocently dancing and singing in nearby woods. The two children meet, one spoiled, arrogant and unhappy; the other naive, poor, happy, unaware of his deformity. Of the two, the beautiful princess is the more severely crippled because she lacks human compassion. The “fantastic” changes her life. Ojai Valley Grange, 381 Cruzero St., Ojai. 646-4885 or sengaclassicstagecompany.com.
