Thousand Oaks Transit will demonstrate its first all-electric public transit bus this month with two initial trips, free of cost.

The 40-foot bus, provided to the city by manufacturer Build Your Dreams and the Ventura County Transportation Commission, is the first in the city to run with no emissions as part of the city’s efforts to become more environmentally friendly.

Over the two-day period, passengers will be able to take advantage of “red route 3,” between Newbury Park and Westlake Village with stops at The Oaks mall and the Transportation Center, from 5 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, and from 12:40 to 7:40 p.m. on Friday, March 14.

The bus has a range of 150 miles on a full charge and is able to transport up to 60 people. Previously, the Build Your Dreams buses have been used in London, New York City and Los Angeles.

The city of Thousand Oaks has made efforts to build a fleet of green vehicles for all city employees and was recently named one of the top 100 “green” cities in North America for 2013.
