The funds allowed VCCF to support and improve the nonprofit services that local veterans receive. … United Way of Ventura County launched its fifth annual Stuff the Bus campaign as part of Day of Action to help send children in need back to school feeling confident and prepared. Last year, 667 backpacks filled with new school supplies were given to kids in our local communities; this year’s goal is to provide kids with at least 800 backpacks. …The McCune Foundation awarded a total of $330,000 to 12 nonprofits for community organizing projects in Santa Barbara and Ventra Counties. The grants will help pay for salaries for community organizers, trainings and other program expenses. … The Ventura College Foundation received a $4,500 grant from the Julius Gius Memorial Rotary Foundation. The grant was provided for the college’s Women’s Safety Net program that provides emergency funds of up to $500 to female students who are experiencing crises that threaten to derail their educations. The money can only be used for child care, textbooks, materials, fees, transportations and other education-related expenses.
…The American Heart Association 2014 Ventura County Heart Walk drew more than 500 participants and raised more than $110,000. Participants did a 5K walk aimed at raising awareness and funds to fight heart disease and stroke and they enjoyed free health screenings and CPR demonstrations and visited health-related exhibits.
