Jamaican-born Yellowman played Discovery Ventura on Thursday, Oct. 27, and gave audiences a taste of what makes Reggae Thursdays at the bowling alley and nightclub so special. Coming out of the Jamaican dancehall scene in the 1980s, the musician and DJ has had a tremendous impact on both reggae and hip-hop, being sampled by such artists as Eazy-E, The Notorious B.I.G. and Sublime. At 60 years old and as a survivor of two bouts of cancer — including one that required extensive jaw surgery — he still brought the raw energy and the beats, proving that nothing can keep this influential artist down.
