Simi student athletes receive uniforms scholarship
It appears that student athletes at Simi Valley High School will have an opportunity to get a head start on the competition after receiving a $1,000 grant to supply helmets and uniforms for the football team.
The Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant from California Casualty awarded 79 schools across 33 states a total of $83,000, Simi Valley High being one of them, one of only nine in California. Since 2011, more than $580,000 has been awarded through the grant program.

VC Fusion hosts San Francisco’s soccer team for season opener
VC Fusion, the county’s professional soccer team, will face San Francisco City Football Club for its season home opener on Saturday, May 6, at the Ventura College Sportsplex. Lucky fans in attendance will have the opportunity to snag a VC Fusion-endorsed water bottle.
Fusion is part of the Premiere Development League, which is part of the United Soccer League. The Fusion plays in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference. Nationally, the PDL has 68 different teams that play in four conferences, and each season is made up of 16 games against division rivals. If a team makes the playoffs, it moves into tournament play among other teams in the overall league for an eventual winner.
Players are primarily 18 to 23 years old and are often college players who are out of school for the summer and looking to remain active in the sport. Several former Fusion members have been drafted into the major leagues. In 2016, the team won seven games.
The game against San Francisco will take place on Saturday, May 6, at the Ventura College Sportsplex, 4667 Telegraph Road, Ventura. For more information on the team, visit www.vcfusion.com.
