Reacting to the end of the first year of President Donald Trump in office, hundreds rallied downtown Ventura wielding signage and chanting messages of resistance. Keynote speakers included Peter Kalmus, climate scientist, who stressed the importance of addressing global climate change. Congresswoman Julia Brownley, D-Westlake Village, and State Sen.Hannah-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara, were slated to appear but were busy — Brownley, in particular, with the federal government shutdown. Assemblywoman Monique Limon, D-Santa Barbara, however, addressed the audience. Afterward, the crowd marched along Main Street.
