Ventura County’s cities are popular destinations for out-of-town visitors, and with the rising popularity of short-term rental housing sites such as AirBnB and HomeAway, many of said cities have raised concerns over a lack of oversight. On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, however, adopted a strict levy of rules regarding such rentals in the Ojai Valley and other parts of unincorporated county. A VIOLENT END | Ventura set to end year tripling homicide numbers over 2015

The first week of December in the city of Ventura ended on a violent note with the homicide deaths of two residents, bringing the total number to seven for the year; there were two homicides per year in 2014 and 2015. On Sunday, Dec. 4, 27-year-old Spencer Turner was found dead by gunshot wound at 1:20 a.m. on Allesandro Drive in midtown Ventura, just off Seaward Avenue.
