The evening begins with a live performance by world-renown composer/multi-instrumentalist and Oxnard phenom RACHEL FLOWERS. Then sit back for a screening of HEARING IS BELIEVING, the uplifting documentary by Ventura filmmaker Lorenzo DeStefano that chronicles Rachel’s life. It’s an engaging portrait of a tight-knit American family with Rachel’s stunning music as the soundtrack.
Appearing with Rachel in the film are Grammy winners Arturo Sandoval, Stevie Wonder, and Dweezil Zappa, and Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Taylor Eigsti, the late progressive rock icon Keith Emerson, Hawaii ukulele master Benny Chong, and the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony performing Rachel’s original composition, “At The End Of The Day.” A Q+A panel follows with the film’s principals.
This event also kicks off the U.S. premiere of an exhibition by prominent Cuban artist Pedro González Pulido, featuring acrylic portraits inspired by Rachel and her music.
The reception and live music begins at 6 pm. The screening begins at 7:15, followed by Q+A with producer/director Lorenzo DeStefano, Rachel, Rachel’s mother Jeanie Flowers, co-producer Patti Channer, and director of photography David Pu’u.
Tickets $20 (plus handling fee) to benefit the Flowers family, the Museum of Ventura County, and Hearing Is Believing Productions.
