Humanity’s Place in the Natural World

Do we belong to the world, are we wholly made of the world, or are we a part of it and also alien to it? What is our responsibility to the world? Are we stewards? These four days will include seminars, lectures, nature walks, astronomy, and panels. We hope you will join the exploration.

Schedule:
Tuesday evening, July 31
3:00-6:00PM – Check in at The Ojai Retreat
6:30 – 7:30PM – Welcome wine and dinner 
7:30 – 8:30PM – Opening Lecture – Humanity’s Place in the Natural World
9:00PM – Optional night walk and guided star gazing

Wednesday, August 1
7:30-8:30AM – Optional mild, guided hike in the Ventura River Preserve 
8:30 – 9:30AM – Breakfast 
10:00AM – 12:00PM – Seminar one 
12:00 – 2:00PM – Lunch and break 
2:00 – 4:00PM – Seminar two 
4:00 – 6:00PM – Break for Ojai excursions
6:00 – 9:00PM – Dinner at Azu Restaurant with lecture

Thursday, August 2
7:30-8:30AM – Optional guided tour of the flora and fauna within the Ojai Valley View Preserve
8:30 – 9:30AM – Breakfast 
10:00AM – 12:00PM – Seminar three 
12:00 – 2:00PM – Lunch and break
2:00 – 4:00PM – Seminar four 
4:00 – 5:00PM – Break 
5:00 – 6:30PM – A public panel conversation with Ojai’s environmental non-profits – How do the principle of stewardship manifest in a community?
7:00PM – Dinner and movie

Friday, August 3
9:00 – 10:00AM – Breakfast 
10:00AM – 12:00PM – Concluding seminar, ending with a storyteller from the Ojai Valley Story Telling Festival.

The Agora Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit endeavor, providing great books seminars and other educational opportunities to those who are busy with careers, families, and daily responsibilities yet are seeking to further their education without the commitments a return to school would involve. The goal of these offerings is to provide an understanding of the ideas that shape civilizations and to promote civil discourse on complicated subjects. Generously funded by The Ahmanson Foundation, Southern California Edison, The Shanbrom Family Foundation, and private donations, The Teachers for Lifelong Learning program is an ongoing initiative training 
high school teachers in this engaging approach to learning, and The Ojai Chautauqua provides panels for a larger community.
